Ode to a Running Shoe

Ok it’s not exactly an ode… more of a poem of sorts. This morning I was rummaging around my idea box and found an old, half-written poem I’d started years ago. Anyway, I took it out, dusted it off and put a bit of polish on the thing. More like putting lipstick on a pig but hey, an artist has to try new things n’est pas?

Motivation

I apologize for yesterday’s cartoon (removed). My arm and hand got infected and I couldn’t draw but tried (unsuccessfully) to rework an old cartoon. Today I’m posting another old classic to replace it.

Just Wanna Have Fun

This one’s a little off the beaten path but when I thought it up it had a twinge of nostalgia for me. Not that as a child I ever wrestled with a fire monster — it was more about the call to dinner (supper) on one of those endless summer days that you wish would never end. I was what nowadays would be called a “free-range” kid. Me and my friends had no adult supervision and no real rules or directives.

When you got up in the morning you’d slam down some toast or cereal and blast outside ready to take on any and all monsters — real or imaginary. You might circle back around lunch time to refuel or get a drink of water or kool-aid but the rest of the time you were out exploring creeks (we called em “cricks”), playing hide and go seek or tag, or just generally wasting time. It was great! But at the end of the day the fateful call to supper came and with it the realization that the magic was coming to an end.

But as I bedded down to sleep a new thought arose…”Tomorrow is another day…”

“And I can’t wait.”
